Chasing Life

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

In my previous post, I talked about Don Ho’s passing and after reading additional articles it seemed as if he had been battling heart disease over the past few years. My father also has issues with heart disease and so it had me thinking about my overall health. By some measures, I am between 20-30 lbs overweight. My thinking behind losing weight is to feel and look better but I had not given much thought to the health aspect of it…until now. I guess I’m not a young’in who can eat what he want, whenever he wants, and suffer no consequences.

chasing-life.jpgSo I was browsing around the Internet late last night, I came across an article about Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s new book Chasing Life.

Here are some customer comments from Amazon:

- “Buy the book, but here’s the summary: eat less, avoid toxins, and pad your daily diet with super-foods that boost your immune system. Got it? Now read the book and begin making positive changes in how you eat.”

- “…it has been known now for over thirty years that it’s better to be slightly under-nourished than over-nourished. With over-nourishment comes the danger of diabetes and hypertension. The author explains clearly why humans and animals live longer on a meager, low-calorie diet.”

- “Dr. Sanjay Gupta has given us a rare gift with “Chasing Life”. Wonderfully written, extensively researched and easily understood advice for “chasing” and perhaps achieving the quality of life we all envision for ourselves. It’s nice to know that there is someone with the credentials of Dr. Gupta who is eager to share sound and practical tips to steer us toward better health. Bravo!”

I read an excerpt at the bookstore the other day and it sounds like an interesting book. The author is highly respected and he makes a lot of valid points in Chasing Life. I would have purchased the book but I don’t have the patience to read anything over 100 pages. I’m strictly a magazine type of gal.
