Don Ho, Hawaii Crooner, Dies at 76
Saturday, April 14th, 2007
I remember being on vacation with my family when I was about 8 years old. We were in Hawaii and the three things I remember were 1) Mashed potatoes and gravy at KFC (I loved food even back then), 2) Having fun on the sand and carefully treading into the ocean (I only went in about five feet), 3) Attending a Don Ho show with my parents.
At that age, I didn’t understand the jokes that Don Ho was telling. But I did know that a lot of people at the show were laughing and were very entertained. I also remember seeing Don Ho advertisement all over the place - billboards, taxis, hotel lobbies - everywhere!
Don Ho and Hawaii go hand in hand…at least for older generations. I can’t say I remember his show (probably because I was a young kid who wanted to go back to the hotel) but I do remember being AT the show. He entertained thousands of stars and tourists and I’m sure he’ll be missed by many.
